OUR SCHOOL ACTIVITIES 

The museum’s outreach team provides tours and workshops for a variety of audiences. From a historical or a scientific perspective, we tell you the story of the battle and the men who took part in it. When First World War archaeology and cutting-edge technology offer an insight into history and enable us to walk in the soldiers’ footsteps...

Our outreach officers have devised multidisciplinary tours accessible to different school year groups. If the teacher wishes, these tours can form part of long-term educational projects.

Please note that the price of guided tours and workshops here after applies to the whole group (30 people max.).

Admission to the permanent exhibition is a per person rate.

VISIT THE EXHIBITION

General guided visit of the Museum / 1hr / €50 + admission fee

During one hour, discover the particularities of the battle of Fromelles and why as the same time it is unique in the way the events took place and why it is a battle among all the battles that took place during WWI.

 

« Searching for Oliver » / 1hr / €50 + admission fee

Using scientific methods and objects from the exhibition, put yourself in the shoes of archaeologists whose mission is to identify a soldier who went missing during the Battle of Fromelles.

 

« From citizens to soldiers » / 1hr / €50 + admission fee

Using the personal stories of some of the soldiers of the Battle of Fromelles, we retrace their journeys, from their enlistment to their experiences on the battlefield, to understand how these citizens became soldiers.

Guided visit of Pheasant Wood Military Cemetery / 30min. / €30

This tour allows you to decipher the specific features of a Commonwealth military cemetery. It also takes a very personal look at the lives of the soldiers, recounting their experiences before, during and after the conflict, as close as possible to their resting place.

 

VISIT THE BATTLEFIELD

« On the Front Lines » / 1hr, 1hr30 or 2hr / from €50 to €100

With the help of WWI maps, the group learns to position themselves on the old front line and discover the events that took place there.

WORKSHOP

« Lost & found » / 1hr / €90 

Using images of the artifacts found with the soldiers in 2009, the group put themselves in the shoes of archaeologists. They have to guess what the items are, what they are used for and, above all, what information they give us about the identity of the soldier to whom they belong.
